KANKAKEE, Ill. (October 29, 2025) – The City of Kankakee is relaunching its Private Security Incentive Program and has expanded its benefits to include lighting. With the relaunching of this program, the ECDA hopes to see more community members taking advantage of the opportunity to be reimbursed for purchasing security cameras and lighting for their property. The rebate amounts are up to $200 for cameras and $200 for lighting fixtures installed on the exterior of residential properties and $100 for cameras and $100 for lighting fixtures per non-residential address. This program is eligible for all City of Kankakee residents and businesses. The Private Security Incentive Program (PSCIP) creates an incentive for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions to purchase and install security cameras and lighting fixtures that are intended to help deter crime and assist law enforcement with investigations. The program offers rebates for the purchase of security cameras and exterior lighting fixtures. “Several residents and business owners came together and suggested this reimbursement program after several public town hall meetings in 2021” said ECDA Executive Director Brewer-Watson. “We listened to these individuals and put together the private security camera program that was funded by generous donations from First Trust Bank, Crawford Barbershop, River Valley Recycling, and Nugent Curtis Real Estate. City Council has committed to continuing the program by funding it another year.” Applicants can apply for a rebate of up to $200 for camera(s) and $200 for lighting fixture(s) for residential addresses and $100 for camera(s) and $100 for lighting fixture(s) per address of a property used for anything other than a residence. Cameras and lighting fixtures must be installed on the exterior of a building. Access to the camera can only be given voluntarily by the owner. There is no camera registration required and all information shared through this program to receive the rebate will be kept confidential. “The private security program is one component of the City’s public safety strategy. It assists in the stabilization and revitalization of our neighborhoods and commercial corridors.
